The Oregon Avenue Residence was a custom home for a couple who planned to spend the rest of their lives in the home. Located on a hillside with fantastic views of Guemes Channel, the best views were from the second floor. The couple decided to apply aging-in-place techniques and plan to enjoy second floor living for as long as possible, with an easy transition to the main level when stairs became difficult.
The resulting design was a four bedroom, 3.25 bath home which featured a second floor flat with a master suite and a multipurpose room with its own partially covered deck. The main level held the kitchen, dining, living, and another master suite, as well as its own covered patios. Provisions were roughed in for a future wheelchair ramp and grab bars.
Each of the bathrooms has its own distinct theme echoed in tile, accents and cabinetry, as does the kitchen (including a textured stone island) and fireplace/media center. The home is also set up to easily transition between owner usage (sun room and office) to guest usage (both are set up to do double duty as bedrooms).
